Family Separation Response

Together & Free was established in 2018 by a national grassroots coalition of volunteers who were appalled by the thousands of family separations taking place under the Zero Tolerance Policy.

Volunteers traveled to the border to find families, advocate for parents to be released from detention, and then help them reunify with their children.  Other volunteers across the country worked with our partners to coordinate flights and then stepped up to support families by identifying the housing, food, legal, and other essential resources they needed to begin healing from the trauma inflicted upon them.

Since then, Together & Free has become a critical partner to organizations at the border who are providing emergency response and support to families impacted by federal immigration policies that lead to unnecessary family separations, including Title 42 restrictions and the Migrant Protection Protocol (MPP) policy.

With our partners, we continue to coordinate flights for family reunification, help families secure housing and food, and meet their legal needs.
